John Zatkos, Esquire

John Zatkos has over 25 years’ experience in workers compensation as well as Social Security Disability litigation.  Prior to arriving at R&B, he was a partner at a Pittsburgh based law firm where he only represented Claimant’s in workers compensation matters and therefore, has a unique perspective in defending the very same matters on behalf of the Employer and insurance carrier.  During his legal career he has dealt with issues involving collective bargaining agreements and other labor and employment matters and the affect it may have not only on potential settlement but also on issues where the Claimant refuses or fails to return to work.  Mr. Zatkos has extensive experience litigating before workers’ compensation judges and oral arguments before the Workers’ Compensation Appeal Board and the Pennsylvania Commonwealth Court.

He is very dedicated to his clients and believes communication is the best practice in the successful litigation of a workers compensation matter.  Mr. Zatkos previously presented on many issues involving workers compensation including labor market surveys, mediations, negotiations, and how to put together the litigation to create the best opportunity for success for organizations including the Pennsylvania Trial Lawyers Association, Pennsylvania Bar Association, Beaver County Bar Association, Sterling and National Business Institute as well as the interactive process of workers’ compensation and the Family Medical Leave Act for Human Resource personnel.  He has reviewed employment handbooks for Employers and recommended changes or amendments to ensure that it followed the law but also protected the Employers right against workers compensation claims.

In addition to being listed in the Best Lawyers in America since 2008, Mr. Zatkos has also been named a Pennsylvania Super Lawyer in the area of workers’ compensation since 2013, which is only awarded to the top 2.5% of Pennsylvania lawyers, has been listed as a Pennsylvania Rising Star several times, Lawyers on the Fast Track in 2007 and has an AV Preeminent rating by Martindale-Hubbell.

Mr. Zatkos graduated from Rutgers University in 1993 with a B.A. in Political Science and from Duquesne University Thomas Kline School of Law in 1996.
